Socks and drugs ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll,
Are all my brain and body needs,
Socks and drugs ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll,
Are very good indeed …

the Blacksocks
The Blacksocks love to play their music live, sharing their quirky mix of styles with an often unsuspecting audience.
Our progression has taken us from being enthusiastic amateurs to a musically tight unit playing with craft & subtlety. We have many times been fortunate enough to play in venues run by friends of the band and are told our gigs have a sense of being inclusive and of a communal event. This is what we aim for. Sharing our music at charity, fundraising and community events is a joy for the band.

Being asked to provide the musical interlude at Transforming with Poetry gave The Blacksocks the ideal opportunity to return to their beloved Inkwell. The band showcased their own lyrical poetry and music with ‘Getting There’ being particularly appreciated. This before playing out the evening with some old favourites including ‘Take the Skinheads Bowling’ and ‘High Heeled Sneakers’.

Where else would you rather be on a wet Thursday night in January? That’s what a small but perfectly formed audience asked themselves as a small but perfectly formed audience asked themselves as The Blacksocks took the featured band slot at The Chemic Tavern. The band’s rockier sound was shown with ‘Got me Running’, ‘All Your Love’ and ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ which featured our old friend Quentin Churchill on vocals. Antonio lead a rousing rendition of Guantanamera before Ian Drury was paraphrased in ‘Socks n Drugs n Rock n Roll’. An encore was called for by an appreciative audience … so our version of ‘Pablo Picasso’ was rendered to round off the evening. It was a great night!

The Blacksocks (minus Antonio) couldn’t help celebrating with old friends and wishing a Happy 10th Birthday to the Cloth Cat open mic night. Going on second we honoured our missing bassist by playing his poem ‘Take Us’ in our short set. The night was headlined by Robin Hood and the Hooded Men and Women. Then a large 10th Birthday Cake made an appearance. Our old friend Mike Jolly was suitably delighted.
The band will return to Czar Street Studios in Leeds to record more original material. Once recorded and mixed the new songs will be upload to the tracks page.
